One of Maverick Venues

Some of you may not be aware that Sutton Bonington Hall is actually part of a larger family of Wedding Venues within the East Midlands.  Maverick Venue Management looks after events at Prestwold Hall in Leicestershire and Norwood Park in Nottinghamshire.

Prestwold Hall was the original venue that Maverick took on, located just outside of Loughborough this stately home is incredibly popular.  Weddings of up to 150 guests can be accommodated.  Civil ceremonies can take place in the Library, or there is a church on the estate from which your wedding guests can walk through the gardens to be greeted at the Hall with a refreshing drink!
.

There is also a new Maverick Venue opening on the Prestwold Estate.  The Cowsheds have been carefully converted and now offer a fanastic and unusual space for weddings and parties.  If you have been searching for a more rustic barn style wedding venue, look no further!

Norwood Park is just outside of Southwell in Nottinghamshire, and again caters for larger weddings than we can at Sutton Bonington Hall.  Norwood is situated in fanastic gardens with stunning countryside views.

Norwood Park

Maverick also cater at venues that don't have their own team of chefs.  Langley Priory being one of these.  Langley Priory is just outside of Diseworth, and caters for beautiful intimate civil ceremonies of 40 guests with wonderful views over the lake.

So, if Sutton Bonington Hall is not quite the venue for you, don't worry there are lots of fabulous venues for you to choose from.

How to find your perfect wedding venue...

First of all, if you are recently engaged - Congratulations!

Hopefully after the celebrations of the engagement calm down you can move onto enjoying planing and preparing for your big day.  However, for some couples this is a difficult step into a world they know little about - where do you start!

We have put together a couple of hints and tips that we pass on to couples as they visit Sutton Bonington Hall, and hopefully they may be of help to you too!

  • Keep an open mind - in the early stages of searching for a wedding venue don't rule out a venue to soon.  There are so many types and styles of venues around the country let alone just in the East Midlands that you may need an open mind to understand the opportunities each venue offers you
  • Visit a few venues - But not too many all at once! - Even if a couple views Sutton Bonington Hall as their first venue and falls in love with it, we would always encourage couples to view another venue or two just to cement your previous feelings.  It is such a big decision, we want to ensure you have made the right decision for you.  Do spread viewing out over several days though, couples that have visited 6 or 7 venues in one weekend often can't remember what the first venue looked like!
  • Come back for a second visit - We always invite couples to arrange a second, or even third viewing, and also you may want to bring parents or a friend on this second visit for a second opinion.  Often parents see things slightly differently, and ask different questions, so if you are all agreed on a venue you have probably found the right one!
  • Dates - The more flexible you can be with a wedding date, the more opportunity there will be for you to book you favourite venue.  We offer to pencil a date to couples for a fortnight to give you time to check that your church or the registrars will be available to marry you, but also to check that your family hasn't got a holiday booked!
  • Ask your wedding venue about suppliers - We have a list of suppliers (such as photographers and florists) that have worked at Sutton Bonington Hall in the past.  This can be invaluable to our couples as it is far easier to use suppliers who are familiar with your chosen venue. They will already know where the best photo opportunities are, or where your might want flowers without you having to tell them.
Wishing you a beautiful wedding day and a long and happy marriage from everyone at Sutton Bonington Hall.

Special treats at Sutton Bonington Hall

Over the last few weeks we have had several new and different ideas that our brides and grooms have brought to the Hall to make their wedding day special.  We always love to see the different ideas people have, it means each wedding here is different to the last.

For the jubiliee weekend our couple were lucky enough to have a very talented violinist in the family, who entertained wthe guests while they were on the lawn having photographs and drinking Pimms.

More recently in June we have a fantastically pink wedding, where the conservatory was decorated with lots of Pink Pom Poms and beautiful flowers from Fleurs en Fleur based in Loughborough.

Finally, last weekend our bride and groom had ordered an absolutely fanstic looking #weddingcake from Your Unique Day The cake fitted in perfectly with their 'Tea' theme and was a real talking point

April Showers

The gardens at Sutton Bonington Hall have been throughly enjoying the rain we have been having this April, although it definitely makes Will's, our gardener's, job a lot harder!

This last weekend we were delighted to host the wedding reception for Louise and Steve.  Fortunately they were able to dodge the showers and even had photos taken in the garden.

On Sunday Deana and Jim celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at Sutton Bonington Hall. They invited 50 of their closest friends and family to attend, and they all struggled through the rain to reach us.  It was raining so much we lit the log fires in the Library and Drawing Room so the Hall was warm and welcoming.

Weddings in March

We were honoured to host the weddings and/or wedding receptions of five lovely couples in March 2012.  Each wedding being very different, but all starting out married life together with hopefully lots of happy memories of their special day.

Early in March we welcomed Eamonn & Claire to the Hall, after the ceremony in the Drawing Room they were able to head into the gardens for canapes and photographs by FirstHand Photography.  We were delighted when Peggy informed us that our cups of tea were to her liking!

Throughout March we have seen some fantastic creativity from our brides, one of our brides, Ruth, had even taken the time to make paper flowers for her bouquets and the table centres.

We always enjoy seeing the various themes and colour schemes, including The Beatles, Fondant Fancies and a lovely springtime yellow wedding.

We were delighted to work with Martin Neeves for the first time at Sutton Bonington Hall, and we love to see as few of the photos he took at Valerie and Richard's wedding on his blog

Our chef Neil also served our new assiette of desserts for the first time in 2012 for Ian and Vicky's wedding.

Assiette of desserts:

Classic ‘strawberries & cream’ shortbread

 Dark chocolate torte

Lemon & blueberry posset
